Metalware

The metal ware is another prominent subsection of the Decorative Arts collection with around 300 artifacts in all. These are further classified under 8 materials namely, enameled ware, tin & copperware, copperware, zinc ware, brassware, Iron & knives, white metal, chipped turquoise ware and Tibetan metal ware. Amongst these, Iron ware & knives, white metal are not displayed at all and only 5 of zinc ware and copper ware are displayed each.

Water Jug Paan Dan

The brassware, enameled ware, tin & copper ware, chipped turquoise ware and Tibetan metal ware are proportionately large in number. Majority of the objects are from the 19th and early 20th century, though the spittoons in zinc ware may belong to the late 18th century.

Hand Wash Vessel Samov

Few assorted Artifacts selected only from the display gallery have been documented. Tibetan collection was briefly examined but could not be documented within the scope of this project. Some of these are interesting and worth a future investigation both for their cultural and historical importance and also for combination of materials and techniques which are different from Kashmir or Indian metal ware. It is important to mention that given several limitations of time and formalities in this project, this documentation is more of a recording of the artifacts in the museum as a first step.
